There was a period when I would have been unhoused had it not been for family & friends who were willing to go the distance with me through a dark season.
2025 marks twenty years since that time, and I carry the memory with both humility and gratitude. The thin line between stability and despair should never be underestimated.
This series is not about pity, but about proximity. Homelessness is not them — it is us. An unexpected turn, a lost job, a broken relationship, and the narrative shifts (sometimes, catastrophically).
A recognition of our shared humanity is paramount. Without it, we lose the foundation for empathy, compassion, and connection – and the ability to walk alongside those whose stories are different than ours.
